43 arrested in post-papal visit Cuba crackdown

At least 43 Cuban dissidents have been arrested in areas near where Pope Benedict XVI visited last week, dissidents said Tuesday, as the United States urged their immediate release. "We have been able to confirm that 43 opposition members have been detained -- 10 women and 33 men -- in a crackdown on Monday in the Santiago de Cuba area. All remain under arrest," said Elizardo Sanchez, head of the outlawed but tolerated Cuban Human Rights and National Reconciliation Commission.

Video: A-ha's 'Take on Me' gets North Korean treatment

Five North Korean accordion players have breathed new life into A-ha’s classic 1980’s hit ‘Take On Me’ with a video version recorded just two days after they heard the song for the first time. The man behind the video, Norwegian artist Morten Traavik, said the musicians from the hermetically sealed totalitarian state were not previously acquainted with Norway’s foremost pop stars, who scored a massive international hit in 1985 with their breakthrough single. “It didn’t seem like they had heard the song before, but they were extremely effective. They got the CD on Monday afternoon and the clip was recorded...

Pop Up That Won't Go Away

I have this constantly popping network popup that wont go away. I cannot find it on my computer but every minute or two it pops up asking me to do something with the network password. I have had thoughts of what I would like to do with it, but not approptiate for this board. I do not have accounts anymore at hostmonster, a child signed me up, did not know until last week that I had been paying for them since 2009. They were never activated. Have kid for sale too. It says ENTER NETWORK PASSWORD server: host385.hostmonster.com user: an...

Coffee > Laptop > Spacebar > Pop!

Dear FReepers, Firstly, I offer my sincere apologies in advance due to 1) a vanity and 2) a non-political vanity, at that. A good friend of mine just texted me because earlier this morning 1) she spilled coffee into the spacebar on her laptop keyboard and 2) immediately thereafter the laptop made a loud "pop" sound and promptly shut off. Unfortunately, rather than turn the laptop upside down to dry out, i.e., to prevent further liquid penetration into the circuit boards, she instead took the whole thing apart and is currently in the process of letting it dry out (piece...

China: The Mother of All Bubbles

In the latest issue of The Casey Report, Bud Conrad does a fantastic job analyzing the truth about Asia. Japan is a ticking demographic time bomb. The Chinese government has created the mother of all bubbles and when it pops, it will be felt around the world. The China miracle is not really a miracle. It is a debt financed bubble. Sound familiar?

FAT TAX ON SODA POP?

One of the unexpected side effects of Obama’s socialized medicine plan could be the state claiming the right to determine what you can eat or drink. When your good health becomes a matter of fiscal policy, you can predict the “fat police” stepping into your life, regulating nutrition as they see fit, and it appears early salvos in that battle are now sounding in Illinois. Murmurs from “public interest groups” located in the Land of Lincoln are suggesting a mandatory state tax on sugary soft drinks that could potentially raise the price of high calorie sodas by one or two...

Batty Lady Gaga wears studded bra and knickers to the baseball

Jeans and a T-shirt would have sufficed, but that's just not Lady Gaga's style. The singer wore a studded leather bra and a head scarf as she watched the San Diego Padres take on the New York Mets in New York last night. Despite her eye-catching ensemble it appeared Gaga had hoped she would somehow blend into the crowd. On noticing a sports photographer turn her way her good mood soured and she gave him the finger.

A Shrink Asks: What's Wrong with Obama?

So what is the matter with Obama? Conservatives have been asking this question for some time. I've written a number of articles trying to solve the mystery.   Even some liberals are starting to wonder. James Carville railed about Obama's blasé attitude after the catastrophic oil spill. The New York Times' Maureen Dowd revamped Obama's "Yes We Can" motto into "Will We Ever?" The liberal women of the TV show "The View" have expressed sympathy for Michelle Obama's living with a man so out of touch. Peggy Noonan, hardly a vehement Obama foe,  recently pronounced him disconnected.  Obama's odd mannerisms intrigue...
